Dr. Joan helps her clients
discover a new sex life
There are still many stigmas & myths about how seniors’ health issues can affect their sexuality. For example, the biggest myth is that seniors don’t have sex! Many doctors are not concerned about women and their sexuality especially as they age.
Dr. Joan was diagnosed with uterine cancer and needed a hysterectomy a few years ago. Luckily, she did not need chemo, radiation, or even medication. She is now cancer-free. She kept asking the oncologist how this was going to affect her sex life. The doctor dismissed her questions and his attitude was that she should just be happy that he took care of the cancer. In a way, she understood, but she knew that there were still many possibilities in the realm of sexuality despite medical challenges.
She didn’t let that doctor stop her from pursuing a healthy – and even great – sex life! Since sex just continued to get more pleasurable for her, with a combination of hormones and cannabis and open-minded sex partners, she didn’t want to lose that pleasure and the negative effect this could have on her relationships. Now she uses the combination of her education, work, and life experiences to share her knowledge with the world. So that more seniors can continue to enjoy sexual experiences through their life phases.
Over the years, Joan has helped so many people through her professional career and personal life that they started calling her “Dr. Joan.” She has a BA in Psychology (Behavior Modification) from the University of Kansas and a Doctor of Clinical Hypnotherapy (DCH). She uses hypnosis, behavior modification, neuro linguistic programming (NLP), cognitive learning techniques, practical suggestions, sex toys, and now cannabis to help add spice back into our sex lives.
Dr. Joan has made many public appearances and has been featured as a guest on many television and radio programs. Her most prestigious appearances include “The View” where she was interviewed by Barbara Walters, NBC’s “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” with Cybil Shepard, Dick Clark’s “The Other Half”, and “Berman & Berman: For Women Only.” Check out her youtube channel here! She also hosted a weekly chatroom for AOL on the Alternative Medical Forum and was a guest lecturer for UCLA. She has spoken at numerous conferences, including the prestigious California Governor’s Conference for Women.
She has an eclectic background – which we now call chapters at this stage of our life. She worked in technology, sales, government relations, and policy development. But her real love has always been sexual enhancement. In the 1960’s, she developed a sex education course at University of Kansas. In the late 1980’s, she was an educator for Masters and Johnson and a matchmaker in Beverly Hills.
In 1990, she wrote a workbook about menopause ‘Taking Charge of Your Changes’ for an infomercial project since menopause is one of the sexual transitions in our lives. She also co-authored the book “Recipes for Hot Sex: The Book For A Spicy Sex Life…Just Add Love” which can be purchased here.
In the 2000’s she had the opportunity to work in technology again. But this time with online child protection as it related to sexual abuse. This changed the direction of her career. But what was consistent with her focus was that the associations she managed were funded by the adult entertainment industry. So in a way, she was still learning about sexual enhancement and how many people – both men and women – used pornography as foreplay. To say the least, it was an eye-opening experience.
